3RD TIME LUCKY AT PLAYCHESS.COM

Last night it's was another lucky day for me as I won another 30 days membership extension and that bring the total membership extension for me to 90 days.Last night top five wins membership extension and 10 lucky winners also selected. 

Almost 200 players took part in 5 minutes blitz and after nine round of play I  finished with 4 points and my overall standing  is at  no 82. That good enough for me as Chessbase awarded lucky winners who finished the event with ending number of 2.

I DID IT AGAIN AT PLAYCHESS.COM

As usual I log on to my account at playchess.com at 1.30 am last night to play .My purpose was to take part in the blitz tournament organise by playchess.com.About 130 players from all over the world gather at vitual tournament room.

No entry fee needed and Chessbase will provided membership extension for top five winners and ten lucky winners.Membership extension varies from 150 day for first place winner ,120 days for second place ,90 days for third place ,60 days 4th place and the rest will wins 30 days extension.Lucky winners last night are selected randomly base on their placing on number 15,25,35,45,55,65,75,95.115 and 125.

I started the tournament with my rating at 1683 and after played nine round I finished with 5 points and rating was increased to 1767 and I wins 30 days membership extension for finishing 35th place.That make my total number of membership to 60 day as I had also won last week. Malaysia beat Bahrain 2.5-1.5 Mas lost his game but it was not clear what has happend to his game.Mok had an easy game and Peter continue his streak of drawing his game and Greg had an easy game too.Live game here In women section Nabila has winning endgame other board not so clear.Live women games here.

I BEAT A GRANDMASTER AT PLAY CHESS.COM

Last night I took part in chess tournament at playchess.com.I played  in all four playchess.com grandrix ,the time control is 3 minutes to the finish.First round start at 10.00 pm,second round at 12.00 am ,2 am and 4 am all in Malaysia time.In order to play in that event participant has to pay 50 ducat equal about five euro.Premium member like me is free.

FINAL STANDING GRANDPRIX 4 

After completed four grandprix my rating is 1840 still low if you compare with other Malaysia players here.But the news is that I beat GM Laxman Rajaram @LAXMAN at the fourth grandprix and I finished 13th in the standing.No prizes won but I am happy that I beat that GM.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND EIGHT RESULTS

Yesterday  Mas Hafizul was rest thus give MCF Secretary  Greg Lau chance to play,Greg did what he suppose to he beat his opponent in style although he kept his audience on the toe during middlegame.His opponent make mistakes and Greg misses his chances.But who care he contributed the the winning points for  the Malaysia team.

Back to first board Mok suprises everyone for not playing modern defence. This time Mok reply with e5 but soon the game transpose into 2 knight opening.Mok survive his opponent onslaught in the middlegame capitalised his winning advantages.

On board 3 Khai Boon just could not deliver the point although he had the advantages.On board four Peters drew his game although he had slight advantages during the middle game.Today Malaysia will play Andorra a small nation south of France ,Malaysia must win with big margin   in order to finish high in the ranking.Round nine live men game here.women live games here.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND EIGHT MATCH

Malaysia will play Sri Lanka today in the eight round.A team that our boys must win in order to improve our ranking, winning with the big margin will help a lot since three more round to play Malaysia current standing is 112 out of 149 federation.So far Malaysia scored 2 win ,1 draw and 4 loses.Live game here.

Our girls will play United Arab Emirates a team full of title players with one WIM on first board and the rest is WFM.I think we have an equal chance.Malaysia currently at 74 out of 115 countries.A comport able win will surely boast our standing,good luck girls.Live game here

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND SEVEN RESULT : MEN DOWN GIRLS SHINE

Malaysia men got beaten by ICSC 1- 3 but  ours girls show some prospect by beating lower seeded Pakistan 4 - 0.The girls today make Malaysian chess fans cheer up.Every thing went smooth for the Malaysian girls only Roslina had little resistance from 42 years old Begum Ghazala her game ended in move 60. Something not right with our boys today all went wrong.

On first board Mas choice of sicilian variation backfire him.On 16th move his opponent exchange  Bishop for Knight  on d5 and Mas reply with Qd5 ,to my opinion Mas could had tried 17.ed5.But after the disastrous move Mas no longer had play on the qeenside he is fast losing tempo and soon cannot save his game.

As usual Mok as black never tired of playing his modern defence opening which I suspected his opponent had prepare.During the middle game stage Mok could had made some error like  21... Kf7 which  he had to retreated a few moves later.He also had problem with his light color bishop and weakness on his e7 square.


This is yet the best game of Tan Khai Boon.Playing the semi slav opening the game is wild ,both are playing for a win not for a tame draw,Khai Boon played aggressively as all of his pieces on the right square for an attack.He emerged victorious and delivered sole point for Malaysia defeat against the ICSC.(Silent Chess)


Peter Long tasted his first defeat in this event.He played the Schmid Benoni.It was an open game, black unable to castle his King and white soon open the position to expose the King.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND SEVEN MATCH

Malaysia will play ICSC a team for silent chess.This team consisting players from several nations.Playing first board for ICSC is 54 years GM Yehuda Gruenfeld (FIDE 2464)from Israel ,second board is IM Duillio Collutiis (FIDE 2447) from Italy.On board three is Vladimir Klasan (FIDE 2393) from Serbia and on board for is IM Sergei Salov from Germany (2271).Yesterday Indonesia beat ICSC by score of 3.5 - .5.Live game here.

Our girls will play with Pakistan relatively unknown to me,the team registers five players with one rated player Nida Mishraz Siddique 23 years who has rating 1796.On second board is Zenobia Wasif 46 years old.Board three is 42 years old Begum Ghazala and on board four is Ayman Shakir.Live game here.All round start at 5.00 pm Malaysia time

MY EXTENDED MEMBERSHIP AT PLAYCHESS

I am a premium member at playchess.com.Actually I did not paid for that.Last year I bought Fritz12 from Chessbase and I that entitle me for  year membership there.So get to enter any room I want to go,playing simul with title player organise my own tournament and playing blitz tournament every night.Last night was my lucky day as I had won 30 days membership extension after trying almost every night.More then 100 players from all over the world played there,during any blitz tournament  from beginners to Grandmaster.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND SIX : MALAYSIA 4 SAN MARINO 0

Malaysia men team as expected beat tiny nation of San Marino 4 - 0.On first board Mas attacked at kingside proved too desive for his opponent to repel and the match ended in just 31 moves.Mok has to work harder to beat his  stubborn opponent in 54 moves.Tan Khai Boon scored his first full point by beating his opponent in 40 moves. His middlegame technique is far better then his opponent.Peter is just too good for his opponent and continue his unbeaten run.

Our girls just cant handle it playing against high rated opponents.Only Alia showed the she had a nerve to play against the IM.She played confident as he opponent pressure her kingside,she defence correctly and reached a winning endgame.Nabila seem lost in her opening and she had to defence all the way.Nurul passive play make her opponent job much easier ,and all her pieces stuck at the back of the board.Mi Yen hungry for a pawn cost her the match ,although she give fightback but that not enough to cover her mistake.Malaysia lost 1-3.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND SIX

Malaysia will play San Marino a country in the border of Italy.It's just small country and players entered this time is  veteran chess players where most of them are over 40 years.But age is not a factor in chess event.Malaysia should be able to win  this round quite easily.Live match here

Malaysia girls in high spirit especially after beaten Iraq.This time they will play Ecuador,this team consist one Internasionalmaster and three women Internasionalmaster.Malaysia should be carefull with this team.Live match here.

Rating perfomance after 5 round

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND FIVE

Today Malaysia will face Bolivia with an average rating of 2206 compare to Malaysia 2325.Bolivia is relatively is a very young team the oldest is only 24 years old and the youngest is only 17 year old Women Internasionalmaster.Malaysia players will bank in on their experiences to win this match.From 4 match so far Bolivia beat Taiwan 3 -1 and drew with Paraguay 2-2 and lost 0 - 4 to Iceland and Slovenia.Live match here

In the women section Malaysia will play Iraq a team with an average rating of 1893 compare to Malaysia 1941.Iraq players is a combination of young and experience players.Although they are coming from very unstable country it doesn't meant they don't play chess.Historically in the past Iraq had produce great chess philosopher .I don't think there are much differences between these two team. Live match here

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND FOUR RESULTS

Both Malaysia men and women suffered second loses.Our men lost 1-3 to Switzerland and our girls share the same identical score.Mas Hafizul continue his fine run when he drew his game against Pelletier in a match that lasted 98 moves.They are a lot of play on both wing when both players trying to outsmart each other.

However Mas innovative play got better when he win a pawn.The Swiss grandmaster know that the best result that he can achieved is playing for a draw .Mas tried everything in vain to look for a win and on move 74 Mas was threatening to check mate Pelletier King,but Pelletier  was able to exchange his Rook for  Knight which lead to theoretically drawn game.It took another 24 moves before the game ended with a draw.

As usual Mok reply with his pet line of Modern defence,an opening he master.His trouble start  at  move 16 after a series of exchanges of pawns ,Gallagher played 18...Ba6 attacking Mok Rook ,he played Rc7 to defence his pawn at c6 and a few moves later Mok had to give up the Rook for Bishop.After Queen was traded Gallegher had a winning position although Mok  was able to push   his d pass pawn.Mok resigned after move 50.

I read about Tan Khai Boon in shout box.I believed he deserved and qualify to play for the country no one should question his place in the national squad although many of Malaysian chess players question his opening preparation.His opponent of today simply too good and to strong for him to play.The game ended in 33 moves.


Peter Long played his favourite opening and he caused a lot of problem at the queenside.for his opponent and the game was played according to Peter's pace.The game ended in a draw.Total score Malaysia lost 1- 3 to Switzerland.


I think our girls obviously need help,I don't know what kind of preparation  MCF has done to prepare our players for this year Olympiad.My guess is that they on their own.Sri Lanka beat us by score of 3 - 1

Malaysia men will play with Switzerland today.A team Malaysia had previously beat at  the last Olympiad.Yesterday Switzerland lost to Egyt 1.5 -2.5.Playing for Switzerland is Pellertier ,he author  of several chess books.Click here for live match

Our women players will face Sri Langka,in round three our neighbour Indonesia beat Sri Langka by score of 0.5- 3.5.Yesterday Malaysia lost to Austria by same score.Only Nabila and Yi Men drew their games.Click here for live match.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD / ROUND 3 : MALAYSIA DRAW WITH LITHUANIA 2-2

Malaysia earned valuable point when our players managed to get a draw 2 all against high rated Lituanian in the third round.On board one  Mas Hafizul playing with black pieces beat Eduardas Rozentalis  ( Fide 2611 )with Sicilian defence Moscow variation an opening Mas himself very familiar.

At some point of the game the Lithuanian Grandmaster stand  slightly better.However Mas managed to maneuver his Queen into the queenside which causes problem for his opponent.After exchanges pawns on the queenside Mas had a very clear advantages which he easily convert into winning position.(Read Rozentalis interview with Chessdom here)


On the second board Mok his opponent choosed to play Philidor defence by the move of 25 all of heavy pieces was exchange with only Knight versus Bishop ending.By moves of 39 Mok was a pawn up.He started to maneuver his Knight all over the board but couldn't find a winning plan.So the ended with a draw.


On board three playing Black from Ruy Lopez exchange Khai Boon was totally out played by his opponent middle game superiority.White sacrifices a Knight for three pawn on the king side.Khai Boon just couldn't find answer to his opponent advancing pawns.


Board four was less dramatic,Peter Long played his favourite English opening.All the moves he made just like text book moves.The ended with a draw.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND 3 MALAYSIA LIVE GAMES

Malaysia men will play Lithuania today and I think our team will put up same players.Lithuania is former Soviet Union republic and has good tradition in chess,in fact a variation in English Opening was named Mikenas variation.Mikenas was a great Lithuanian chess player.

Nowaday basketball is first choice of sport there.It is huge and many of Lithuanian basketball players  played overseas.Click here to follow Malaysia versus Lithuania.

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : ROUND TWO GOOD SHOW - BY MALAYSIAN

Malaysia men and women won their games respectively.As expected Malaysia men easily trashed  Hong Kong by the score 3.5 - 0.5.Hong Kong earned half points when Brian Lee drew his game with Tan Khai Boon.Tomorrow Malaysia will face Lithuania who has average rating of 2545,Malaysia average rating is only 2325.

I know that all of the Malaysian players will always give their best whoever the play.Our lady also recover their loses yesterday by beating Ethiopia 4 -0,and tomorrow Malaysian lady  will play with Austria who has average rating of 2228 compare to Malaysia with only 1941.

Below are games from our women players in round two against Ethiopia.Malaysian lady  clearly a class above the Ethiopian who is famous with it world class long distance runners.

Malaysia will play Hong Kong today and our women team will play Ethiopia after losing 0 - 4 to Slovakia.Hope that playchess will included Malaysia.Meanwhile today top board match is between Azerbaijan and Vietnam.While waiting for the result let watch this video:

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD : MAS HAFIZUL SAVED MALAYSIA (UPDATED VERSION)

Malaysia suffered first lost at the hand of England today.Only Mas Hafizul saved Malaysian pride by drawing with the top rated English Grandmaster Michael Adam.On board two Luke Mcshane start the game with b3 (Nimzowitsh Larsen Opening) to beat Mok and the game ended in 31 moves where Mok King was checkmated at the center.NM Lim Khai Boon appear for the time for Malaysia in the Olympiad display  high fighting spirit while playing with  David Howell.Khai Boon lost in 36 moves in Gruenfeld exchange.On board four Peter Long playing Caro kan (2 Knight Variation) just could not hold Gawain Jones and easily lost in just 28 moves.Malaysia lost to England 0.5 - 3.5

39th CHESS OLYMPIAD :MALAYSIA VS ENGLAND LIVE AT PLAYCHESS

Currently playchess.com are broadcasting live first round of the first 12 table of men section and 10 table in the women section.Playing on board one for Russia is Grischuk against Collin of Ireland.Russia with an average rating of 2755 is expected to beat lower first round opponent with average rating of 2365.

But what most important is that today and I am watching live match between Malaysia and England at playchess broadcast room.On first board for Malaysia is Mas Hafizul (W) who is playing with Michael Adam,Mok is playing Luke Macshane .Lim khai Boon is playing David Howell and Peter long playing with Gawain Jones.

I will post Malaysia men games here later.

I never heard khanty Mansisyk  before until FIDE annouced it will be host of 39th Chess Olympiad.So using the Google earth I see what made up of this region.Bacisally its a streching flat land as far as you can see.Total population is less 100.000 people.But this place is  the host  of 39th Chess Olympiad.Let us see what the tournament statistic has to offer :

CHESS OLYMPIAD START TODAY : MALAYSIA AGAINST ENGLAND

2010 Chess Olympiad start today at 3.00 pm local time.Malaysia is represented by a women and a men team.Our men team is headed by IM Mas Hafizul Hilmi who will be playing on  the first board ,IM Mok is given the task of playing in the second board,NM Tan Khai Boon who is making first apperance will be playing in the third board and Peter Long will be playing on the fourth  board and reserve player is MCF Secretary Gregory Lau.(Playing schedule click here)

As for the women team Alia Aznin Azwa Bakri sister of Anas Nazri will be playing on the first board and WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham on the second board,third board is Nurul Huda Wahiduddin who is making come to internasional chess scene.Fourth board is Roslina Marmono and reserve player is NWM Fong Mi Yen.

Our men team is seeded no 84  on board seven.IM Mas Hafizul is expected to play against Michael Adam or Niger Shorts.(England team list is here) .Then our women team who is seeded 72 will play  against Slovakia (Slovakia team list here)

Now you can play online chess everywere  on the internet.As such just go to your favourite website and instantly you can play whoever you choosed.My favourite place for the last three years is playchess.com, started goes online on 14th September 2001 and celebrated birthday a few days ago.They are thousand players online at a time and mostly European players.To play at playchess.com you can download free software here.

There are also many players from American continent,a little bit from African.For Asian countries there a lot of players from India.But  majority of the players are from Germany.Few Malaysian are here most of them used nickname like me , I used nickname Speedweb.Other strong Malaysian players that I know who are playing at playchess are Jimmy Liew ,Sumant ,Edward Lee ,NM Evan Capel ,FM Anas Nazrin and Fairin Zakaria.VVIP players like Niger Short ,Gasimov ,Anish Giri and other top GMs are frequent players here and I am  able to watch them play at the main playing hall.

Highest rating that I achieved is 1840 plus and the strongest played that I ever played was under nickname Harryp0tter who has 2617 rating .Second highest rated played that I played was  Uvo who has 2542 rating.Of course I easily lose both games to them.Normally strong players did not accept your challenge.So how I was able to play with someone who are rated higher then me?

Actually playchess.com organise blitz tournament everyday except on Friday and Monday night Malaysian time.Time control range from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.In order to play in the blitz tournament you have to a premium member like me.During playing at the bliz tournament I rarely see Malaysian taking part.


.One year membership is €30,00 and for premium membership will cost  €50,00.Premium member can follow live broadcast from top tournaments.Maybe expensive for most of us but I think it s worth your money if you buy the ori Fritz 12 or Rybka 4 as its come with premium membership for one year.You may order from me if you interested.


For example last year I was able to watch Nur Nabila playing at the top board during world junior championship in Turkey.Beside live broadcast premium member able to organise tournament and invite other to play.

I just received from DGT a new gadget which is called DGT CUBE.This is the latest gadget offered by DGT is 2.5 x 2.5 inches and weight about 100 grammes smaller  then your palm.This Cube  basically a timer for various board games such as scrabble,poker ,snake and ladder game ,monopoly ,chess and many more as the DGT claimed.

This Cube is a square shape has 6 face each with own timer and color.Its like to have 6 chess clock in a one unit. What make the cube special is you dont need to press any button (the start and stop  button is there) to start just rotate the side of the next player to move upward and it will detect the movement of your action and will stop your time and next player timing will starts.

On the other hand I am not sure wether this is practical in chess tournament.Because you have to twist the cube in order to stop the time.But in other board game like scrabble or poker its practical gadget.Anyway 6 players can uses the Cube as timer for their game.
