CHESS OLYMPIAD START TODAY : MALAYSIA AGAINST ENGLAND

2010 Chess Olympiad start today at 3.00 pm local time.Malaysia is represented by a women and a men team.Our men team is headed by IM Mas Hafizul Hilmi who will be playing on  the first board ,IM Mok is given the task of playing in the second board,NM Tan Khai Boon who is making first apperance will be playing in the third board and Peter Long will be playing on the fourth  board and reserve player is MCF Secretary Gregory Lau.(Playing schedule click here)

As for the women team Alia Aznin Azwa Bakri sister of Anas Nazri will be playing on the first board and WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham on the second board,third board is Nurul Huda Wahiduddin who is making come to internasional chess scene.Fourth board is Roslina Marmono and reserve player is NWM Fong Mi Yen.

Our men team is seeded no 84  on board seven.IM Mas Hafizul is expected to play against Michael Adam or Niger Shorts.(England team list is here) .Then our women team who is seeded 72 will play  against Slovakia (Slovakia team list here)

Now you can play online chess everywere  on the internet.As such just go to your favourite website and instantly you can play whoever you choosed.My favourite place for the last three years is playchess.com, started goes online on 14th September 2001 and celebrated birthday a few days ago.They are thousand players online at a time and mostly European players.To play at playchess.com you can download free software here.

There are also many players from American continent,a little bit from African.For Asian countries there a lot of players from India.But  majority of the players are from Germany.Few Malaysian are here most of them used nickname like me , I used nickname Speedweb.Other strong Malaysian players that I know who are playing at playchess are Jimmy Liew ,Sumant ,Edward Lee ,NM Evan Capel ,FM Anas Nazrin and Fairin Zakaria.VVIP players like Niger Short ,Gasimov ,Anish Giri and other top GMs are frequent players here and I am  able to watch them play at the main playing hall.

Highest rating that I achieved is 1840 plus and the strongest played that I ever played was under nickname Harryp0tter who has 2617 rating .Second highest rated played that I played was  Uvo who has 2542 rating.Of course I easily lose both games to them.Normally strong players did not accept your challenge.So how I was able to play with someone who are rated higher then me?

Actually playchess.com organise blitz tournament everyday except on Friday and Monday night Malaysian time.Time control range from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.In order to play in the blitz tournament you have to a premium member like me.During playing at the bliz tournament I rarely see Malaysian taking part.


.One year membership is €30,00 and for premium membership will cost  €50,00.Premium member can follow live broadcast from top tournaments.Maybe expensive for most of us but I think it s worth your money if you buy the ori Fritz 12 or Rybka 4 as its come with premium membership for one year.You may order from me if you interested.


For example last year I was able to watch Nur Nabila playing at the top board during world junior championship in Turkey.Beside live broadcast premium member able to organise tournament and invite other to play.

DGT CUBE : PRODUCT PREVIEW

  
                                        




I just received from DGT a new gadget which is called DGT CUBE.This is the latest gadget offered by DGT is 2.5 x 2.5 inches and weight about 100 grammes smaller  then your palm.This Cube  basically a timer for various board games such as scrabble,poker ,snake and ladder game ,monopoly ,chess and many more as the DGT claimed.

This Cube is a square shape has 6 face each with own timer and color.Its like to have 6 chess clock in a one unit. What make the cube special is you dont need to press any button (the start and stop  button is there) to start just rotate the side of the next player to move upward and it will detect the movement of your action and will stop your time and next player timing will starts.

On the other hand I am not sure wether this is practical in chess tournament.Because you have to twist the cube in order to stop the time.But in other board game like scrabble or poker its practical gadget.Anyway 6 players can uses the Cube as timer for their game.


The  Cube has five different setting, game timer,move timer ,move timer + save ,up count and turn counter.You can also set individual time settings.This Cube uses 2 battery and 24 month warranty and €40.00 or about RM170 if anyone interested contact me.

MAKSAK CROSSTABLE

At last after very hectic week I managed to post this Maksak 2010 cross table here.As already known that Kuala Lumpur captured this year MAKSAk team championship after four years break.Well they deserved it considering the strenght of their players.

Defending champion Sarawak failed to retain the title although they seem tried very hard but to no avail to defend their title.Only Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu are managed to retain the title when they won in two straight year.

Terengganu reconfirmed their status as the top team at MAKSAK level by winning second place.Last year lukewarm performance's by the Terengganu players who could only finished fifth place.

Kuala Lumpur most likely to win the MAKSAK team championship that will ended today.Trailing Kuala Lumpur is Terengganu.I dont have complete details as I already in Terengganu for personal commitment.Full results later.

MAKSAK UPDATE

After 4 round of play Terengganu is leading group A after beating defending champion Sarawak 2.5 to 1.5.On the first board Hashim Jusoh could only managed a drew with Abang Mohd Reduan and Terengganu winning point came from Norazmi Mohd Nor who beat Lim Kian Hwa on board two.Games from other board result ended with a drew.Terengganu also beat Perlis and Penjara with 4-0 respectively.

MAKSAK TEAM TOURNAMENT STARTS TODAY

Maksak team tournament starts today at Puteri Park at Jalan Raja Laut Kuala Lumpur .Fifteen teams are taking in this annual event.Each team is divided into 3 group.Defending champion Sarawak is seeded first in group A.This tournament will end on Sunday.

ALFATIHAH : ALLAHYARHAM WAN ZAHMER WAN HID

Pagi tadi saya mendapat satu sms daripada telefon bimbit Wan Zahmer Wan Hid yang memaklumkan akan kepulangan beliau ke rahmatullah.Kemudian saya panjangkan mesej tersebut kepada kenalan beliau yang mungkin tidak mengetahui akan kematian beliau.Saya percaya ramai pemain catur generasi sekarang di Terengganu tidak mengenali siapa beliau sebenarnya.

Allahyarham seorang pemain catur yang prolifik serta penuh dengan humour dengan sesiapa yang mengenali beliau.Objektif beliau dalam permainan catur ialah mudah sahaja iaitu mencari check mate yang mudah dengan menggunakan kombinasi Bishop dan Queen.Di kalangan pemain pemain catur di Terengganu dan Kelantan  kombinasi tersebut dipanggil  " buah dagu ".Beliau seringkali menggunakan teknik buah dagu bagi memenangi perlawanan catur.

Sebenarnya saya telah lama mengenali Allahyarham Wan Zahmer iaitu pada tahun 1980 atau 1981.Pada tahun tersebut  Persatuan Catur Negeri Terengganu (PCNT)telah diberi peluang untuk menjadi tuan rumah perlawanan serentak dengan seorang Grandmaster yang terkenal Raymond Keene dari England.Tugas Allahyarham ialah untuk mengiringi GM Keene disepanjang perlawanan serentak tersebut yang mana telah diadakan di Tapian Gelangang Jalan Pasir Panjang Kuala Terenganu.

Sejak dari tarikh tersebut Allahyarham sentiasa berhubung dengan saya memandangkan beliau pernah memegang Jawatan dalam PCNT sebagai ahli jawatankuasa sehingga pernah dilantik sebagai naib pengerusi.

 

Marilah kita sedekahkan Alfatihah kepada Allahyarham dan berdoa supaya beliau ditempatkan dikalangan orang orang yang beriman.ALFATIHAH

HASHIM WINS DUNGUN BLITZ

It was total disaster for me playing in the blitz tournament  in Dungun.I don't know whether other players stronger then me or my lack of practises with human,I dont know what happened to me today. Maybe, I think i played below par . I accumulated 5.5 points out of 9 round.Losing two games to weak opponents.I was  quite confident when I decided to play in Dungun since I spend  a lot time at Playchess.com.I thought with my rating around 1800 plus there should made me strong challenger for the first prize of RM200.

In the end it was Hashim Jusoh who walk away with RM200 and his MAKSAK teamate Nor Azmi Mohd Nor finished second.Third was Abdul Kadir Jailani and fourth Universiti Malaya Mohd Syazwan Zulkifli.Fifth place Fairul Yusoff.Congratulation to all of winners and to my friends who will play at MAKSAK tournament next Thursday I wish you all the best and you can do it.

DUNGUN BLITZ STARTS

On the way to Dungun ,suddenly Dungun is the center of chess activities in Terengganu now but never mind it is only one hour drive from from Kuala Terengganu.Travelling with me is Mohd Razif and Hidayat both UDM's players.We will play blitz tournament and I believed everything will finished  around 1.00 pm.Hopefully I will play well and grab the first prize worth RM200.I will upload the result after this event over.

DUNGUN BLITZ UPDATE: DEWAN PERTANDINGAN

Makluman kepada semua pemain catur Terengganu yang akan menyertai kejohanan catur kilat pada hari Sabtu 31hb ini  di UITM Dungun.Venue pertandingan telah di tukar kepada block 13B5 Uitm ,Dungun.Bagi memudahkan pergerakan ke venue pertandingan pihak Jawatankuasa Pertandingan akan menyediakan petunjuk arah.

Semua peserta di minta hadir selewatnya pukul 8 pagi.Pusingan pertama akan bermula jam 9 pagi.Kejohanan dijangka berakhir jam 2 petang.Kawalan masa untuk  kejohanan santai ini ialah 5 minit serta masa bonus 5 saat setiap gerakan yang dibuat.Peserta hanya perlu membayar RM5 sebagai yuran penyertaan dan hadiah wang tunai berjumlah RM600 telah disediakan sebagai hadiah.

Kejohanan catur kilat amat jarang diadakan di Terengganu jadi pada hujung minggu ini kita boleh mengenalpasti siapa juara catur kilat bagi negeri Terengganu.Antara pemain yang telah mengesahkan penyertaan ialah Ruzenan Abu Bakar ,Abdul Kadir Jailani ,Norazmi Mohd Nor ,Fairul Yusoff ,Hashim Jusoh, Suhaidi Mustaffa  dan Abdul Rahim Ramli.

Kejohanan ini diadakan sebagai sebahagian daripada latihan kepada pemain pemain catur MAKSAK Terengganu yang akan menyertai kejohanan tersebut pada 6hb hingga 7hb Ogos nanti di Kuala Kumpur.Selamat bertanding.

The interstate team championship for government servants will be held at Puteri Park at Jalan Raja Laut Kuala Lumpur on 6th to 8th August.The event is for the government servants only promises to be an exciting event as we will see many experienced players taking part.Defending champion Sarawak is drawn in group A together with 2008 champion Terengganu, Perlis ,Penjara  and dark horse Sabah.From my observation this is the first time Sabah is taking part in this event.Group A promises to be an exciting fight between title holder Sarawak ,Terengganu and Sabah because top 2 teams will be qualified to play in the winner pool.Only Kedah and Negeri Sembilan will not taking part.

Leading the  group B is Kuala Lumpur ,Melaka ,Perak Johor and PDRM.Former champion Kuala Lumpur look set to qualified for the winner pool.In group C Kelantan look set to dominate this group as they have the services of experienced players.Kelantan had tried many years to be a Maksak champion but this years they surely give other teams a run for their money.Last year Maksak event was held in Kota Bharu.Terengganu already selected players for this championship.Click here for last year results.

Dungun Open just started at Mayang Sari Resort today ,about 100 players are taking part in this annual event organised by UITM Dungun.The tournament will be officiated by Dungun Member of Parliment YB Matulidi.Among notable players who is playing are Abdul Haq Mohamad ,Kamaluddin Yusof and Abdullah Che Hassan.All Terengganu top players are taking part including yours truly who won last year.I will update every two round.Click here for current standing after second rounds of play.
