Malaysia closed chess championship started today at Dato Arthur Tan Chess Center in Kompleks Wilayah Kuala Lumpur.52 players are playing in the men section 22 players in women section.Top players in the men section are Mohd Saprin Sabri and Kamaluddin Yusuf both are the 1st and 2nd seeded players.Saprin and Kamaluddin never won the closed champion.Representing Terengganu in this event are Mohd Khairul Nazrin and Wan Aizuddin.

In women section Alia Azwa Anin Bakri look strong to defend the title she won last year.But the fight is still open as she has to play Nur Najiha Azman Hisham and Amira Syamina and MSSM under 18 champion Nur Munirah Mat Rahim of Perak.

Oil business emerged champion in the Petronas East Coast Sport Carnival which was held on 22nd to 23rd May.The Oil Business team comprising all experiened players Ruzenan Abu Bakar ,Affandi Ismail,Zahanuddin Zainal Abidin and Mohd Nizam Awang proved too strong to other team to handle.This year Oil Business without their starplayer Internasional Master Mas Hafizul Hilmi who is playing in the overseas tournament.

Secondplace was won by last winner Gas Business who were 1.5 points behind the Oil Business.Third place goes to Gebeng.Full result here

SUKAN STAF UITM :UITM TERENGGANU MUNCUL JUARA

Uitm Terengganu terus menguasai acara catur berpasukan campuran buat sekian kalinya dengan memenangi kesemua tujoh pusingan.Pasukan yang diwakili oleh Abdul Rahim Ramli,Norazmi Mohd Nor ,Mohd Zamri Jusoh ,Mohd Jamil Alang Abd Aziz ,Aishah Ismail dan Nur Syazwani Halim terlalu kuat untuk diberikan cabaran.Perebutan untuk tempat kedua dan ketiga ialah diantara pasukan Intec , Pahang dan Johor.Berikut ialah keputusan penuh kejohanan.

Pagi ini sukan staf UITM sudah bermula.Dalam acara catur senayak 7 pasukan mengambil bahagian setelah pasukan Shah Alam menarik diri disaat akhir.Kejohanan akan dijalan secara liga.Pasukan UITM Terengganu adalah pasukan favourite dalam kejohanan dwi tahunan ini.UITM Terengganu diwakili Prof Madya Abdul Rahim Ramli dan Norazmi Mohd Nor.Setiap pasukan terdiri daripada 4 pemain lelaki dan 2 pemain wanita.

KILANG GULA PERLIS OPEN CHESS CHALLENGE 2009

Kejohanan catur terbuka Kilang Gula Felda Perlis berakhir semalam.Kejohanan tersebut mendapat sambutan yang hangat dari peminat catur tanahair dengan hampir 250 penyertaan.Pemain pemain catur yang akan bertanding dalam sukan universiti juga turut kelihatan.Kejohanan berjalan dengan teratur disamping pihak penaja kejohanan Kilang Gula Perlis yang menaja jumlah hadiah yang besar (RM4000) .Hadiah hadiah telah disampaikan oleh YAB Menteri Besar Perlis.

Universiti Teknologi Mara Cawangan Terengganu akan menjadi tuanrumah kepada sykan staf UITM yang akan diadakan pada 18hb hingga 22hb Mei 2009 bertempat di kampus Dungun.Lapan pasukan telah mengesahkan untuk bertanding dalam acara catur berpasukan.Kejohanan akan dijalankan secara liga dalam format berpasukan.Antara pemain yang akan terlibat ialah Abdul Rahim Ramli , Norazmi Mohd Nor kedua duanya bermain mewakili UITM Terengganu.Berikut ialah senara nama pasukan yang akan bertandingan, keputusan akan diupload ke chess result.com

Annual Dungun open concluded today and 2003 winner Muhammad Arshad score 7/7 from field of strong to emerged the winner.I consider myself lucky to win this event because of my last minutes " mamak " against my opponents that is Fairul Yusuf and Suhaidi Mustaffa.Norazmi Mohd Nor finished second and Abdul Rahim Ramli was third by beating Selangor Open prize winner Mohd Khair Wahiduddin.

The Selangor Open just ended yesterday ,no doubt that Nicholas Chan proved he is among the top chess players in the country with the effortless 2456 rating performance.As for the our Terengganu players who took part in the event the mission are more or less are to get rating,but I think our players give a good fight to higher seeded players in between the round.Overall I am quite happy with our juniors performance in this event.Some of them gained rating after completing this event.Let see how they finished the event.

NOR AZMI FORMER SELANGOR OPEN CHAMPION

Terengganu players will take part in the Selangor Open open starting on 30th April to 3rd May 2009 at Dato Arthur Tan Chess Center ,Wilayah Complex Kuala Lumpur.Norazmi Mohd Nor also the former winner of the Selangor Open in 1998.Among who has confirmed to take part are Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli,Fairul Yusuf ,Abdul Kadir Jailani Ramli ,Siddiq Husainy Hasbullah ,Muhd Khairul Nazrin Ahmad Nashir and Muhammad Arshad.The objective of Terengganu players in the prestigious Selangor Open are to obtain FIDE rating.Syazwan , Kadir and Fairul needed 4 games to confirm their internasional rating.So far Terengganu have 3 rated players Nur Ilhamuddin Shaik Ali , Mohd Hafez Hilmi Harun and Munir Azmi Mohd.With Selangor Open participants we will have another 3 to 4 rated players by next listing.Wish them all good luck .

THAILAND OPEN

The Thailand Open just concluded yesterday.The Malaysian players headed by IM Mas Hafizul Hilmi and FM Mok, Ismail Ahmad and two Sarawakian.I also noticed that David Gates and Francois Wolfaard also played in that event , both players also took part in the GrandFinal of Pencarian Jaguh Catur Terengganu in Disember Last year.Full result here

NASTIONAL AGE GROUP CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

The annual age group chess championship just ended yesterday.Nearly 500 players from all over the country took part in this event.Terengganu juniors players also took part in this event but coming under their own initiative.This is the list of Terengganu players who took part in the event.The best performances player in all category is Mohd Khairul Nazrin who scored 5 points to finished 9th place.This is followed by Arif Farae Mohd Salim also with 5 points to finished 11th in under 12 category.

About 10 juniors players will be playing in the Nastional Age Group that will be held in Pearl Point in Jalan Klanag Lama Kuala Lumpur.They will be leading by Mohd Amirul Zahanuddin and Mohd Khairul Nazrin both will be playing in under 16.Siti Aisyah Sabirin also will be playing in under 12 girl and she will be put up a strong challenge in her category.In MSSM last month Siti Aisyah finished 5 place.Good luck to all of them.
